Folk Alliance International (FAI) is determined to address the environmental impact of the organization (its office, operations, year-round events, and annual conference) and has adopted a robust approach to reducing its footprint. FAI has partnered with Bridging the Gap who is providing tactical expertise to help us meet our goals of increased recycling, waste diversion, and widespread music industry adoption of sustainability practices.
For the first time, FAI’s 2,500 copies of the 150-page Program Book and Pocket Guide will be printed on 100% recycled paper and with soy ink. FAI researched paperless solutions for these documents, but it was not a viable solution for our community. FAI will provide training on waste reduction best practices to the 70 Private Showcase Room Hosts, encouraging proper recycling, composting and disposal of waste in the hotel rooms where many FAI delegates gather and perform each night.
As the world’s largest gathering of the folk music community, and a leader in the international music industry, FAI has a strategic voice and leadership influence on the wide folk community and music industry. Our specific, measurable, and achievable efforts at our events, and the targeted marketing, messaging, and training at the conference sends a strong message of culture shift to our local, regional, national, and global audience. Each of our festival and venue members produces uncounted tons of waste each year. We hope that our adoption of Green Folk will inspire more awareness and action, and apply a significant influence on peer organizations.
To cut down on waste at this year's conference, we will not be supplying cups for water. Pitchers of water will still be provided, but please bring your own water bottle to refill.
Alternatively, you can purchase a Folk Alliance-branded water bottle. Bottles are $10 onsite at the conference merch table.
